National Bank of Malawi plc and Malawi Defense force planted 9000 trees at Changalume barracks in Zomba
NBM chief executive officer Macfuss Kawawa said tree planting and nurturing of forests must be embraced by all Malawians.
“it is the duty of all of us in leadership at all levels to lead by an example and encourage tree planting, nurturing and caring of trees and the protection of the environment as a must for all the people we lead.” He said
MDF 93 Brigade Commander Colonel Blaise George Sayenda said the partnership with NBM plc is remarkable milestone in national efforts to address environmental degradation.
He said, “We are losing our training areas which is impacting heavily on our training. We always remain active in the efforts to address the issue of deforestation by not only deploying forests where we are conducting low intensity operations against those who deliberately destroy our environment, but also embarking on the noble task of planting trees as we are doing today.”
The partnership between the bank and MDF plans to plant 40,000 trees this year.
