National Bank injects K1.5M into Ladies Golf

National Bank of Malawi plc (NBM) has injected K1.5million into the Malawi ladies open stroke play championship set for Lilongwe Golf Club (LCG) between April 11 and April 4.

During a cheque presentation to Ladies Golf Union of Malawi (LGUoM) in Blantyre. NBM Financial controller Arnold Makanda said the assistance is part of Banks corporate responsibility.

“The Bank sponsors a number of sporting events in the country, including golf and basketball as part of corporate social responsibility. We hope the forthcoming international event will attract and promote tourism and enhance teamwork. Best wishes to Team Malawi, have fun and make new friends.’’ He said.

LGUoM secretary general Connie Muguvu-Karuku who was accompanied by a treasurer Harriet Marian, thanked the bank for the support.

‘’This support is the banks sign of respect for ladies golf and we are very excited with this kind of gesture. Now, I can say we are 70 percent ready for the championship as we finalise the registration process.’’ She said

The competition which will be the first Malawi Open Ladies event since 1972, is expected to attract lady golfers from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Uganda.

At present, Malawi has 84 registered female golfers but at least 70 are expected to compete in the K15 million championship.

The contest will start on April 11 with practice sessions while Division A and B will take place on 12and 13 April. It will climax with the championship division on April 14.
