“We are aware that many hospitals in our country are running on minimal medical supplies. The doctors and other health personnel work as hard as they can to supply the best care available, but often, it’s not enough. In considering this, it pleased the bank’s management to approve the request that we received from the hospital that we assist with medical equipment.

The shortage of functional medical equipment is a critical barrier to meeting the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Lack of quality medical equipment or poor state of medical equipment is a key challenge our hospitals face in delivering services.

At National Bank we believe that healthy people are productive hence they are likely to participate in the process of building a healthy nation. To this effect the Bank is always addressing some critical medical requests for the supply of drugs, equipment and refurbishing of infrastructures from the country’s hospitals in order to improve the health of the people who are sick. Out coming to Mulanje Hospital is a testimony to this.

It is the prayer of the Bank that our medical personnel in Malawi will continue to work with love and compassion, the many challenges and frustrations they face not-withstanding.

Medical donations, like the one we are making today, not only provide you with essential supplies, but they also allow you to redirect your financial resources towards other important priorities, such as ensuring that the patients have enough food to eat and clean water to drink.

As times are hard and that there aren’t many donors out there, we urge you to take good care of the equipment we are donating today.

On behalf of the management and staff of National Bank it is now my pleasure to present the National Bank donation of assorted medical equipment worth MK5.0 million to the Mulanje District Hospital.” Tamara Mtuwa, Manager, Mulanje Service Centre

Speaking when he received the donation, Mulanje District Health officer, Dr. Khuliena Kabwere explained how crucial the donation is since the hospital serves about 600,000 people in and around Mulanje. This implies that many people will benefit from the donation. He acknowledged National Bank for responding fast on their request. “We are happy that National Bank is assisting the government in the health sector. I am appealing to my colleagues at this hospital to take good care of the donated equipment so that they last long and benefit many patients.”

Speaking on behalf of the hospital community, Mr. Kasesa was happy that the Bank thinks not of only making money but status of the people around it. He thanked the Bank for the donation especially the Blood Pressure monitors which will help in reducing the risks of losing lives due to Blood Pressure problems.
