Halmiton Zungu and Joshbed Mpanga won National Bank of Malawi golf tournament at the Mulanje Golf Club on sunday, 15th October.

Playing off handicap 21, Zungu, a South African national who started playing golf mid last year scored 67 points to beat 68 other golfers to claim the men's title while the Lilongwe Based Mpanga was the victor in the women's category.

Gerson Araujo, was the runner up in the mens category, playing off handicap 12  with 68 points. Nyakhoko Nsona, playing off handicap 16 was third with 69 points. Mohamad Zim Zim , playing Off handicap 16 was forth with 69 points counted out.

In the ladies category, Mpanga, playing off handicap 28 won with  78 points while Bose mvula playing Off handicap 28, was a runner up with 77 points.

The Mulanje based Golfers had a special prize which was won by Dermont Allen playing off handicap 24 with 73 points

Zungu hailed NBM for sponsoring the tournament at Mulanje Golf Club.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for me and my family as apart from playing golf, we have been able to see beautiful places like Mulanje."'said Zungu an engineer working for Illovo Malawi.

Mpanga dedicated her Victory to her Husband who was celebrating his birthday that sunday.

'' I really enjoyed my golf today and I was calm and enjoyed the course,'' she said

NBM General manager and Head of Corporate Banking Division, Harold Jiya said that the bank was impressed with the turn out which was oversubscribed.

'' We thought of sponsoring this golf tournament here at Mulanje Golf Club as one way of supporting our clients and also meeting them in a more  relaxed manner so that we inform them of our products and  also to get feedback from them.'' he said

Jiya also presented a K200,000 to Mulanje Golf Club for the maintenance of the golf course.
