NBM hands over K36.3M TB Ward to QECH
National Bank of Malawi plc (NBM) has handed over a K36.3M refurbished Tuberculosis (TB )ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, NBM Head of Retail Banking Division Oswin Kasunda said the ward will help TB patients to live in a conducive environment during their treatment.
He said, " We all know that TB treatment takes a lot of time and patients need a good environment as they stay along period in the hospital. It is our hope that the rehabilitated facility will be looked after properly and every installation will remain in its place for the benefits of the patients."
QECH Health Services Administrator Kondwani Chisi thanked National Bank of Malawi for the good gesture which they will live to remember and cherish. He said the ward will help to reduce further TB infections.
The rehabilitation of the ward started in 2011 and it involved building of a TB guardian shelter, maintenance of the drainage system, sinks, sockets, fence, slabs, lights in and outside the ward, painting of the ward, installation of a geyser, replacement of windows, showers and a wall separating men's and women's wards. During the handover ceremony, NBM also donated cleaning detergents so that the ward remains clean.
