The bank awarded the students with cash amounts of K362,500 each and pledged to buy computers worth K4.5 million to help the students in their studies.

The students include Lonjezo Folias currently pursuing a Bachelor of Sciences in Agricultural and Applied Economics, Leonard Kumwenda who is studying for Bachelor of Science in Irrigation Engineering, Kingdom Simfukwe pursuing Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science and Romeo Fabiano doing a Bachelor of Science in Gender and Development.

NBM Chief Executive Officer Macfussy Kawawa said NBM takes pride in the awards because they believe in the youth of the country.

“These youths have a very important role to play in the socio economic development of this country. I therefore trust that these awards will spur you (the students) towards greater achievements. Our message to you is: keep challenging yourself and have a sense of pride in your achievements,” said Kawawa.National Bank

Kawawa advised the students that college education offers them a wide range of opportunities to widen the range of choices they can make like remaining in the academia through teaching, going into entrepreneurship or becoming specialists in their areas of study.

“I urge you to make your education a top priority so that you can be successful and realize your dreams,” said Kawawa.

Speaking on behalf of Luanar Vice Chancellor Professor George Kanyama Phiri, Professor Jeremiah Kang’ombe thanked NBM for the students’ awards saying the bank’s recognition of the best students is testimony of the quality of graduates that Luanar produces and it also symbolises the Bank’s appreciation that university education is a critical component of human development worldwide.

“As an Institution, we are grateful for your support and we are proud to be associated with you. I hope that we shall continue counting on your support in future as we engage in many other activities,” said Professor Kang’ombe.
