Physical conditions for classrooms and the general environmental of schools are key in providing a conducive learning environment for both pupils and teachers. One of the factors that affect the efficiency of learning is how well students and teachers sit in classrooms. Lack of desks and chairs to schools is one of the challenges that pupils face and is a cause of girl child drop out. A Well designed classroom has the ability to encourage creativity and promote collaboration amongst the students.

To the teachers too, it is difficult to do a good job of teaching in a poor type of building and without adequate equipment and furniture. A school building or a classroom has no merit when built without due regard to its educational objectives and functions.

In response to some challenges that Luntha Community Day Secondary in the outskirts of Zomba is facing, National Bank of Malawi on Thursday, 14^th March 2019 donated 152 sets of desks and chairs. The desks and chairs worth K6.0 million were donated by the Chief Executive of NBM, Mr Macfussy Kawawa and received by the schools Head Teacher Sister Margarita Kamangira.

In his speech Mr Kawawa challenged the student to own up their responsibilities towards their education and usefulness to society. He advised them to refrain from drinking alcohol and early marriages.

He said the donation of resources to schools is all the Bank can offer and that the rest is up to them to see to it that they concentrate on their studies if they are to become useful citizens of this country.

“I urge you to start now to work hard. Pay attention to what your teachers and parents advise you to do. Emulate from us because, at one point we were like yourselves, children in secondary school.” Said Mr Kawawa.”

The Head teacher, Sister Kamangira thanked NBM for the Timely donations of the desks to the school.

“We thank National bank for their generosity and timely donation. The school has an enrolment of 400 students and the desks that we had were not enough. It was hard for the school to procure such fixed assets due to financial constraints. This donation has rescued us. Our students will be comfortable and learn better.” Said Sister Kamangira
