NBM Pledges Continued Education Support
National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc says it will continue supporting education because it believes in investing in the sector.
The Bank’s Chief Executive Officer Mcfussy Kawawa said this after handling 152 desks and chairs worth K6 million to Nkhotakota Secondary School.
The donation was made in response to a plea by the bank’s retired employee who is also an alumnus of the school.
Kawawa said being a Malawian financial Institution, National Bank felt obliged to make the donation to ensure that the youth attain education in a conducive environment.
“We value education and a well-educated nation forms a vibrant economy. Therefore the bank has placed education as one such key priority in its corporate social responsibility.’’ He said.
Kawawa said the bank plans to open a service centre at Dwangwa before the end of the year. Noting that construction works are at an advanced stage.
He added, “We want to have more presence in the lakeshore region thereby advancing government’s agenda of financial inclusion’’.
In his remarks, the Deputy Head teacher, Daniel Saka said the desks will help alleviate the schools furniture problems. The school has an enrolment of 600 students.
He said the school has a shortage of teaching and learning materials for students with special needs at the facility’s resource centre.
