Somewhere in the northern region of Malawi, there is a small village that lies in between mountains called Chingerezi Mithi in the Traditional Authority of Jalavikuwa in Mzimba District. In that village there is Kacheche Community Day Secondary School that caters for all young men and girls from the village and other surrounding villages. Being very far from the City of Mzuzu and Mzimba Boma, it is difficult for the learners to get what they need most to improve the quality of their education. The students lack basic items like writing materials, chalk, classroom cleaning materials among other small items. The school also relies on drawing water from the village borehole and often times, priority of drawing water is given to the villagers and not the school.

On the bigger challenges the school lacks better classrooms and desks. This has made learning at Kacheche Day Secondary school not very attractive to the learners, hence the numbers reduced from 200 to 160 currently.

Hearing their sad story, National Bank of Malawi in June 2019 made a commitment to supply the school with sets of desks and chairs so that both leaners and teachers are comfortable.

The Chief Executive Officer of National Bank Mr Macfussy Kawawa and other NBM management team visited the school on Thursday, 7th November and made a donation of 100 desks and chairs worth K4.5 million.

In his speech Mr Kawawa encouraged the students to work hard despite their situation. He cited of some people who have made it in life and have a similar background like them.

In his remarks, after receiving the desks, the Head teacher Mr Makause said the desks will have a big impact on the school and the whole community at large. He said the desks will improve the teaching and learning experience at the school.

“We thank National Bank for this timely donation. With this donation of desks, we expect the enrolment of the school to rise because there has been drop out because of the poor learning environment.’’ He said
