NBM donates K1 million to ESCOM for international conference
National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc on Thursday donated K1 million to Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) which is hosting an international power conference starting today in Lilongwe.
Presenting the donation, NBM plc Head of Operations Brian Boby said the Bank decided to contribute towards the 54th Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) conference because supply of power drives economic growth and would benefit the Bank and businesses operating in the country.
“Looking at the significance of power supply in this country in general as well as to us as consumers, we thought it wise as a bank to sponsor the conference. We hope that this will provide an opportunity for ESCOM to learn from counterparts in the SADC region on how best to improve power supply to consumers,” said Boby.
Escom Director of Systems and Marketing Operations Patrick Kadewa thanked NBM plc for the donation saying it will significantly contribute to the success of the conference.
“We are grateful to NBM plc for this timely donation. The conference we are hosting is very important as we will be discussing the pool of power resources within the SADC region and how we can address the problem of power shortages,” said Kadewa.
He outlined that the conference shall attract approximately 150 delegates drawn from the 12 SADC countries. The conference will be held from March 2 to 5, 2020 at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
