National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc Learning and Growth Centre popularly known as NBM Training College has been recognised with the ‘best catering services’ award by the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS).
NBM Training College was awarded with the Best Catering Services award at a ceremony which took place in Blantyre on Thursday attended by Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Salim Bagus.
Receiving the award, NBM Learning and Growth Centre Manager Abigail Madise said the centre is elated to be recognised in the particular category.
“We have received the Compliance award for the first time as a centre and this means a lot to us. We have put NBM plc and the centre on the map and we believe this will not be the last time. Thanks to the Learning & Growth Centre team for believing in excellence,” said Madise.
She said MBS awarded the centre because among other things it complied in the areas of timely medical checkups for all food handlers, staff being in clean uniforms at all times, toilet and changing rooms being clean at all times, provision of adequate space, light and ventilation for the kitchen and restaurant, hygiene notices and cleaning schedule being available at all times and provision of waste bins which are regularly emptied and cleaned.
The centre also did well in areas of clean equipment, storage places and process areas at all times, provision of toilet soap at all times and fire extinguishers being available and timely serviced.
“We make sure that all these things are in place and we believe in excellent and harm- free service to our customers,” explained Madise.
Speaking at the function, Bagus hailed the role MBS is playing in making sure that standards of products and services are being achieved to match of what is on the international market.
“MBS should also make sure that companies and organizations have the right certification for products and services so that we match international standards,” said Bagus.
