PCL, NBM plc Donate Towards COVID-19 Fight
Conglomerate Press corporation limited and its subsidiary national bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has donated assorted items worth K35 million to Blantyre District head office DHO and College of Medicine (COM) to help in the fight against the novel corona virus (Covid-19) Pandemic
The items include hospital beds with hydraulic adjustable backrest, height and mattresses, Vital signs monitor (blood pressure, pulse and temperature meter), personal protective equipment including gloves, aprons and hand sanitisers.
Speaking after presenting the items at Kameza Isolation Centre in Blantyre, PCL plc group Chief Executive Officer George Patridge said the donation was part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility.
He said, This pandemic has affected all of us in terms of businesses, family and all angles and it is in our interests to provide some of these items within our means to help fight the pandemic.’’
“Times are hard and are hard and we are all in financial hardships but we know the little we can get to help fight this pandemic is an investment towards future environment of businesses.”
On his part, Blantyre District Director of health and social service Dr Gift Kawalazira thanked the two companies for the donation saying it will help in building capacity of health workers at the centre.
Presenting the items on Friday at Com. NBM plc Chief executive officer Macfussy Kawawa said the bank made the donation in response to the needs of the country in fight against the pandemic.
“The Pandemic has a major impact on us as a nation at different levels. We saw that frontline workers need support if they are to fight the pandemic effectively. We this decided to make this donation.” He said.
