National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has donated K1 million towards the Institute of Bankers in Malawi's (IOBM) second Bankers Agribusiness Conference at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe from December 3-4.

Speaking during the cheque handover ceremony Blantyre on Monday, NBM Treasury Sales Manager, Grace Phiri said they supported the conference because it is going to provide an opportunity to engage with other key stakeholders and establish linkages in the agricultural production value chain.

“Significantly, the conference will provide a platform for the Bank to bring awareness to the recently launched Farm Infrastructure and Implements Loan as well as other related products and services offered by the Bank not only in the Agriculture sector.

“As a bank, we believe that our economy can grow if the agriculture sector is supported and that is why we recently launched the Farm Infrastructure and implements loan facility. There are several facilities that support the Agriculture sector which shows our commitment to supporting this sector. We believe this will go in some way to make this year’s conference a success,” she said.

IOBM Chef Executive Officer (CEO), Lyness Nkungula commended NBM for the timely support saying it will help in ensuring the success of the Conference which is much focused on women empowerment as they have partnered Comesa Federation National Associations of Women in Business.

The Conference will be held under the theme “Creating Resilient and Sustainable Agrarian Economy in Malawi”.
