National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc on Thursday donated K1 million to Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) which is hosting an international power conference starting today in Lilongwe.

Presenting the donation, NBM plc Head of Operations Brian Boby said the Bank decided to contribute towards the 54th Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) conference because supply of power drives economic growth and would benefit the Bank and businesses operating in the country.

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has donated K1 million to Malawi Law Society (MLS) for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for the 27th of February to the 1st of March 2020.

Presenting the cheque in Blantyre, NBM plc Legal Counsel and Company Secretary Zunzo Mitole said the bank values the role that lawyers play in the country, especially in the financial sector.

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc on Friday treated customers that took part in a social media Valentine’s promotion that run from the 5th to the 11th of February.

To gain eligibility for the promotion, customers had to register onto to NBM’s mobile banking app, Mo626 Digital + and transact, or simply transact if they had already registered. Nine winners, announced on Valentine’s treats such as full board accommodation for two at a hotel of their choice (two couples), dinner for two (two couples) and Gift Hampers (5 couples).

NBM plc Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa said the promotion was an amalgamation of two of the Bank’s objectives of being customer centric and enhancing customer experience through digitization of processes and products.

National Bank in a Nationwide Tree Planting Initiative

NATIONAL BANK IN A NATIONWIDE TREE PLANTING INITIATIVE

In fulfilment of its Go Green Initiative, National Bank of Malawi plc, on Saturday the 25th of January helped make Malawi Greener by planting trees in Blantyre, Zomba, Karonga and Mzuzu.

The Bank plans to plant 37,000 trees in total during the 2019-2020 tree planting season in coordination with its partners – the Roman Catholic Arch Diocese of Blantyre and the Malawi Defence Force.

Speaking at the sidelines of the tree planting ceremony in Zomba, NBM Plc Chief Executive Officer Macfussy Kawawa said the Bank had supplied 10,000 seedlings to be split between Cobbe and Changalume Barracks.

“At the inception of this partnership, we had planned to plant 100,000 trees within 3 years, which we have managed to do. Even more meaningful is the fact that, through the help of our partners, we have managed to achieve an 80 percent survival rate on trees planted with MDF,” explained Kawawa.

He added that as a responsible corporate citizen, the Bank is concerned with the adverse effects of climate degradation and is ardent on helping communities preserve the environment.

NBM plc Head of Cards & e-Banking William Kaunda said in Blantyre that as market needs and trends keep changing, the bank will continue to innovate and bring forward products and services that are aligned to these trends.

“Customers with a contactless card are able to make Point of Sale (POS) purchases and ATM withdrawals by simply holding the card in front of the payment device instead of swiping or inserting. Contactless payment is a convenient, smart and fast way of transacting on NBM POS machines,” said Kaunda.
